Lifelike dummies falling asleep on the job Nov 16, 2009 at 08:05
Toto, I don’t think we’re in Kansas anymore. We are, however, still stuck firmly in the Bible Belt – where cars are beds, horses are people, and parking meters are big tasty lollipops (hallelujah and praise the lord!).

Designed to perplex and incite American street-goers everywhere; Mark Jenkins' weird and wacky street installations transform the everyday in to the bizarre. Most notable are his human life form pieces – hand-modelled on living, breathing adults and children – which crop up begging on street corners, asleep face down in their lunch, and upside down on street buildings.

We’re pretty sure it’s only a matter of time before some wanky art student writes a thesis on Mark’s work. It will probably contain words such as 'juxtapose' and 'confronting', and will tell us that Jenkins challenges the ordinary person’s reaction and empathy towards the experience of others (or something).

The rest of us unschooled suckers, however, will be thinking precisely thus: “WOW. That is a truly convincing dummy. I wonder if I could… maybe… have sex with that?”*

More at xmarkjenkinsx.com.

*Not that we condone this sort of hanky-panky business. You should probably take it out on a date first.

I wonder if anyone actually stops to check if that face-down human form is ok or in any need of assistance? i saw an old lady with a cane fall over the other day, I was across the road and too far away to get to her quickly... but it was weird, it took people around her the longest time to react, which thankfully they did eventually... do we just assume in our society now that everyone just wants to be left the fuck alone?
